Desert Island Discs with Dan Morgenstern

This special edition of Desert Island Disss features jazz historian-archivist-author-journalist-essayist-educator  Dan Morgenstern, who recently turned 90, and has immersed himself in the sounds of jazz since he was 10. Morgenstern’s c.v. is too long to summarize (he’s a 2007 NEA Jazz Master; his c.v. appears here –, but suffice to say that his contributions as a nuanced chronicler and exhaustive documenter of the jazz timeline since he arrived in the U.S. in 1947 are essential to our understanding of the music’s timeline. We’re not sure how Dan will distill eighty years of listening into a list that can be contained within a two-hour program, but whatever music he would want for solace on the imaginary desert island —  and his remarks on both the artists and the notes-and-tones that he presents  — will be both compelling and fascinating.
