Havana Harlem Festival Concert
The Havana Harlem Cultural Festival brings you a night of musical and cultural exchange featuring the Tim Porter Trio and celebrated Cuban sax icon Cesar Lopez.
Seating is first come, first served.
Cesar Lopez is considered one of the most important sax players in Latin jazz. A veteran of Chucho Valdez’s GRAMMY-winning band, Irakere, Lopez has shared the stage with such living legends as Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Tito Puente and Chick Corea. Since that time, he’s led his own groups, including “Habana Ensemble” which has released the award-winning recordings “Sonajero” and “Andante.”
Mandolinist Tim Porter opens the set with his wide-ranging trio, a group rooted in the blues, jazz, Celtic, Indian, and worship genres. Porter, who also performs with The Contemporary Ensemble in New York and has produced records for Roni Ben Hur and Duduka Da Fonseca, is a longtime ambassador for jazz, serving on the boards of WBGO, The New School and the National Jazz Museum.
The Havana Harlem Cultural Festival celebrates the rich artistic connection between Harlem and Havana, and seeks to re-ignite the historic relationship that existed between Cuban and New York jazz musicians before relations between the U.S. and Cuba were suspended in the 1960s.
