Musings on Mardi Gras – Mandolin Skinny on Fat Tuesday
This event has been postponed. We apologize for the inconvenience.
New Orleans, Mobile, and Rio are among the cities that celebrate this occasion which, like jazz, combines influences from around the world. We’ll explore some of these influences, in which the mandolin has had a singular role, looking at Brazilian Choro, Samba, Bossaa Nova, and other Latin inspired music like Bolero, and Tango, all of which are now standard in the expanded jazz canon. Joins us for a musical reflection on the meaning of carnival, which in Brazil begins on the Friday before Ash Wednesday and ends on Fat Tuesday.
