Unheard Savory: The Jams – Satchmo, Chu, Bunny and Prez
Martin Block was one of the first DJ’s in America, and his NY-based show on WNEW started a new trend in playing records on the radio. To counter claims that he wasn’t supporting live music, Block invited some of jazz’s greatest stylists to jam in the studio. The Savory Collection offers superbly recorded examples of many historic jams previously unknown, and a few that existed only in poor sound quality.
Prepare yourself to hear Louis Armstrong, Fats Waller, Lester Young, Bunny Berigan, Chu Berry, Roy Eldridge, Slim and Slam, Teddy Wilson, Jo Jones, Benny Goodman, and many others like you’ve never heard them before.
