What Love’s Got to Do With It
The subject of romance, love – lost, found, and rejected, is one of the oldest to have musical treatment. The mandolin, with its lute ancestry, renaissance instrument relatives, kinship with the human vocal range, and nineteenth century parlor music history, was perhaps more fitting than most instruments to express the many themes on the subject. It did so in the blues, Brazilian music, pop songs and jazz. We’ll look at all of them.
