The National Jazz Museum’s Jonathan Batiste to Receive Award at the Apollo Theater

On January 31st at 7pm Jonathan Batiste, The National Jazz Museum in Harlem’s Artistic Director At-Large, will receive the Apollo Theater’s Louis Armstrong Legacy Award. The award ceremony and a performance by Jonathan are part of the Apollo Theater’s “Friday Night in Harlem”, a Super Bowl celebration and mega-concert featuring four-time Grammy-Award Winner Ms. Regina Belle, and Grammy-Nominated Lalah Hathaway and Valerie Simpson, backed by contemporary jazz musicians Alex Bugnon, Victor Bailey, Lenny White. Performances include the big band sound of the Manhattan School of Music Swing Jazz Orchestra, with special guest performances by Cecil Bridgewater and Arturo O’Farrill. You can also enjoy the spiritual sounds of Harlem’s Mass Choir at First Corinthian Baptist Church and Grammy/Oscar nominated IMPACT Repertory Theatre in a special Gospel Tribute to Nelson Mandela.
