Saturday Panels
Louis Armstrong: Discussion led by Ricky Riccardi
January 7, 2012

Guests: David Ostwald, Dan Morgenstern and George Avakian

The last 25 years of Louis Armstrong's life were filled with brilliant music, joyous onstage performances and worldwide acclaim that led him to be dubbed an "Ambassador of Goodwill." But these were also the same years when some of his critics claimed Louis went "commercial" and was soft on issues of race.  All of these themes will be discussed, along with numerous musical and video examples, during a Saturday afternoon panel at the Jazz Museum in Harlem, led by Ricky Riccardi, author of "What a Wonderful World: The Magic of Louis Armstrong's Later Years".
