Savory Collection | In The Press

A jazz lover's dream come true: more than 100 hours of live recordings made between 1935 and 1941, packed away for decades and only rumored to exist. Count Basie, Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, Lester Young, Duke Ellington, Lionel Hampton, Fats Waller, Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman, Teddy Wilson, Django Reinhardt, Coleman Hawkins, Louis Jordan, Lennie Tristano, Bunny Berigan and many more - this is a musical treasure of incalculable value. This is The Savory Collection.
Made by recording engineer William Savory, the collection of 1000 discs was acquired by the National Jazz Museum in Harlem in 2010 and has made headlines around the world - in the New York Times, BBC, NPR, Newsweek and more.
Making this music accessible to the public will require painstaking work: archiving, restoring and digitizing the collection disc by disc, track by track. Time is of the essence and we need your help. Preserving a typical disc will cost $1,000; "Gold Standard" discs, based on condition and content, are $5,000. Your gift will be credited in perpetuity and we can even work with you to find your favorite artist or track.
Will you join the National Jazz Museum in making musical history? Will you save The Savory Collection?
