Happy Birthday Artie Shaw!
Remembered today as a big band leader, as an author, and as the husband of several glamorous wives, Artie Shaw, whose 114th birthday anniversary is today, still has yet to receive his due as a superlative jazzman. His long lines, harmonic sophistication, and cool style wear well today, several decades after he gave up the clarinet fifty years ago.
